Doll Hair Bow Tutorial with Christine

Friday, December 27, 2013

Christmas is over and the recovery is on!  I have a little set of bows to share with you today that I created for my little girl as part of her Christmas present.  Her big dream for this request was an American Girl Doll.  It was a first for her!  She loves to do hair, so I wanted to make her some little bows to use in her new doll's hair that were just the right size!

This lucky little doll has her own, one of a kind bows!  Today I am going to share with you how I created these bows.  And don't worry, they are quick and easy...especially with the right tools in hand!

I created several different little bows.  The key to making this work easily is to use ribbon that is less than 1/2" wide.

I purchased some smaller clips that are about 1 1/2 inches long.  Perfect for a very little girl or a doll!  --To start you will want to cut a 4 inch strip of ribbon.

-Cover the top of the clip with fabric glue or hot glue (something that dries fast).
-Then begin at one end and tack it down and create a loop until you get to the other side.
-Add glue to the center and smash down the middle with your finger.

-Cut down the excess and use that to create the middle of your bow
-Add a dab of glue tot he center and wrap the piece around the center, securing it with glue to the bottom of the clip.
-Trim off excess.

-After allowing it to dry overnight, it should be ready for doll hair!

Now what colors should I make next?

Gift Wrapping with Nylvalour Velvet Ribbon

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Merry Christmas!  Jamie with you today and like most of you I have been busy shopping and wrapping!

I love to have a variety of boxes and bags ready for the Holidays to hide gifts in so that they aren't obvious as to what is in them…yes, I am one of those that will wrap the smallest present in the largest box (or boxes!) just to keep the kids guessing!  This year I created over-sized Pillow Boxes to help me conceal gifts!

For this large pillow box, I used the 7/8" Kiwi Nylvalour Velvet Ribbon.  This high quality, Swiss velvet ribbon comes in widths from 3/16 to 2" in all colors. Wider widths available in black. It is a true velvet, not a flocked velvet. We also carry stretch velvet ribbon and double face velvet ribbon for special orders. Contact us if you are interested!

Wishing you and yours a safe and happy Holiday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Ribbon Wreath Card Tutorial by Pinky

Friday, December 20, 2013

Good morning and Happy Holidays from Pinky today!

I am here today with a new idea for a beautiful
Ribbon Wreath Card- and to be honest you could totally turn this into
a package topper, ornament or even a PIN!
It all revolves around the gorgeous Ribbons Unlimited Ribbon!
Starting with Double Ruffle Ribbon 7/8" Kiwi and a heavy duty card stock.
Trim heavy duty card stock into a 2.5-3" circle.
Using a sewing machine and fold ribbon as you straight stitch around
the edges of the card stock circle.
Trim out middle of paper to leave a ribbon wreath.
Adhere a vintage bracelet or pearl strand in the middle
to cover stitching and add flair.
Add sticker or flare to bottom.
Adhere patterned paper to front of card base.
Ink edges in coordinating ink. (I used turquoise blue).
Adhere quote to center of wreath. Adhere to card front.
 Add some Pearls or gemstones.

I hope you enjoyed my post today.

Until next time- Keep on creating!

Xyron adhesives, SEI Noel Papers & Stickers, vintage bracelet.

Holiday Tags with Jill

Looking for a fantastic holiday ribbon? Our Pumpkin Ombre ribbon fits the bill...
Christmas Creations

Christmas Creations
To create these tags, I stamped them each using Penny Black's Harmony background and Distress Paint (Barn Door and Wild Honey).  Once dry, I added Distress Inks over the top.  The areas stamped in paint acted as a resist.  My two smaller tag images were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then adhered using dimensional adhesive after being colored with Copic markers and cut out. To embellish each tag I used Penny Black Creative Dies Snowflake Trio and Dancing Leaves.  Finally, I added the Ombre Ribbon to pull all of the colors together.

Framed Holiday Decor with Christine

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

Hi Ribbons Unlimited Fans!  Christine joining you again today! I'm so excited that it is the Christmas Season and today I have simple way to add some holiday decor to your home.

One thing I like to do is switch out some of the pictures in my picture frames for a Christmas look.  I go very simple!  All you need is a vibrant piece of Christmas patterned paper.  This one comes from Doodlebug Design.  Then if you add ribbon you can make it look like the top of a present.

I added a real simple bow (that doesn't look simple.)  First of all the key to making this bow easy and with lots of dimension is to use wired ribbon (for this one I used the Luxor Wired Metallic Ribbon in red).  To make it simply cut 7 strips of equal sized ribbon.  Fold them in half and staple the ends together.   Then lay 6 out to look like the base of the bow.  Cover up the mess center with one more in the middle (use some good fabric glue and it sticks in nice and easy).  Then use your fingers to puff them up and make them pretty!  I also left the glass off the frame, so that my bow wouldn't get smashed back down!

Hope your holiday season has started off wonderfully!

Gift Bow with Jamie Cripps

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Good Morning Ribbons Fans!
Jamie back with you today to share a fabulous tutorial for making homemade gift bows I found over on Monica Edward's blog!  The bows are super easy and the results are stunning…just have a look!

The image to the left is after the bow was removed from the template and the image to the right is the finished bow once pulling all the layers apart!

For this bow I am using the Giraffe Print Grosgrain Ribbon in 7/8".  This ribbon is a little stiffer than some of my other grosgrain ribbons so it wrapped around the template well and also holds it shape!

You can find more Animal Print Ribbons through the link below:

And be sure to check out Monika's tutorial to create your own gift bows!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Reverse Canvas with a Ribbon Border by Christine

Friday, November 22, 2013

Hi Ribbons Unlimited Fans!  Thank goodness it is finally Friday!!!  We're in the final haul before we head to the full blown excitement of the holidays and today I thought I'd share a canvas with you that I created using some holiday leftovers from last year!
Reverse canvas using holiday decor
As you have probably noticed, I like to use crafty items in different ways and today's project is no exception.  First of all I flipped over my canvas and created a reverse canvas.  Why? Because I wanted some wood to show that would coordinate with the wood on my embroidery hoop.  To create my border I used red satin ribbon (Double Face Satin Ribbon in Camellia Rose - 5/8") and laid it out so that it was right in the middle of the wood and white (leaving a little of each showing).  I wanted a little bit of pattern to things so I then topped it off striped washi tape.  My heart on my embroidery hoop is made up of tinsel garland that is attached to a big paper heart.  Once I glued all the garland on I simply trimmed off the excess around the edges and then added a pearl border.

Have you entered our awesome contest yet????
