Easy No Sew Ribbon Headband by Jamie

Saturday, August 29, 2015

Hey everyone,

Jamie here and today I have an easy no-sew ribbon head band to share.

The supplies you will need:
Gray fold over elastic smaller than your ribbon (any color you like will work)
Hot glue gun
Hot glue stick(s)
Scissors
button or something similar to put in the middle of your flower (optional)
grip shelf liner (optional for lining the inside of the ribbon to help it stay in place on the head)

Step 1.
Measure out your ribbon by putting it around the head it will be going on. Cut it a few inches shorter than the full amount to go around the head.

Step 2.
Measure your elastic by putting it with the ribbon and fitting it around the head. You will want to make it so that it has to stretch to fit around the head (so that it stays on).

Step 3. (optional)
Here is where you would make your flower. To make the flower take the ribbon and pleat it in a circle while adding hot glue to the center to hold it down. Continue this until the circle is complete. Once the circle is finished hot glue a button (or item of your choice) to the center of your circle. Once your flower is finished hot glue it to the ribbon and place it wherever you want it (I choose to go off to the side slightly).

Step 4. (optional)
This is where you would line the inside of your ribbon with the grip shelf liner. Draw a line of hot glue on the inside of the ribbon a little at a time and push your liner down into the glue line. You will want to have the liner run the length of your ribbon.

Step 5.
Add a hot glue line at the end of the ribbon on the inside and place one end of your elastic on it. Than do the same to the other side of your ribbon and elastic making sure not to get it twisted.

Step 6.
Enjoy your new headband!

Thanks for stoppin' by and have a great day!

Patriotic Hair Bows by Jamie L.

Friday, June 26, 2015

Hi everybody,

This is Jamie and today I want to share some easy to make hair bows with you all. These bows are perfect for 4th of July!

Here is a list of the things you will need to make these bows:
Alligator clips (one per bow)
Hot glue gun
Hot glue sticks
Scissors
11/2" navy blue mini stars wired ribbon

It took me less than 30 minutes to make these bows start to finish. I made a (hopefully) easy picture tutorial for you just in case.

Step 1.
Cut ribbons to size. I cut the navy star ribbon at aprox. 11 inches and the red approx. 3 inches.

Step 2.
Take your blue star ribbon and gate fold until the ends overlap (make sure to have them overlap enough for a line of glue to hold them together).

Step 3.
Hot glue a line across one of the edges and then press the two edges together to make a continuous piece of ribbon (it should look like a circle or bracelet shape once unflattened).

Step 4.
Flatten the ribbon you just glued together and grab in the center of the ribbon and pinch together.

 Step 5.
While still pinching the center of the ribbon, use your other hand to fold the top and bottom of the pinched area to the back (so that the center now makes a "W" shape). At this point you can hot glue to hold it together or use some twine/thread and tie it in this position if you like.

Step 6.
While holding the center in a "W" shape (you won't have to hold it if you've tied the center in this position) take your red ribbon and wrap around the center to hide the fold. (The 3 inches is enough to wrap around 2x. If you only want to wrap around once cut off the excess now).

Step 7.
Now secure the red ribbon with hot glue (making sure your ribbon seam end is on the back side of your bow).

Step 8.
Now hot glue your alligator clip (or hair piece etc. of your choice) to the back side of the bow. Make sure you line it up in the middle so that you can't see the clip from the front.

See, I told you easy! I hope my tutorial was easy enough to follow.  Thanks for taking the time to view my project today!

Thanks for stoppin' by and have a great day!

Not So Scary Hair Bow by Pinky

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Hey friends it's Pinky today with a "Not So Scary" Halloween hair bow.

Have you seen all the incredible fall colors in Ribbons Unlimited??
They make amazing fall hair bows and so much more!
For this bow I used the French Wired Tangerine Ribbon in 1 1/2" and it was perfect
to shape into the bow I wanted to create.
I created a simple bow then placed it on some black tulle.
After that I took an acrylic owl and glittered the back in coordinating
glitter and sealed it using glossy accents.
Leaving the top side acrylic for a shine.
I adhered the owl to the bow then added a hair tie.
I also sealed the ends using fire.
It's perfect for that not so scary fall look every little girl loves!

Check out all the amazing colors on Ribbons Unlimited.

Spider Bow with Jamie

Friday, October 3, 2014

Good Morning Ribbons Unlimited, Inc. Fans!  Jamie back with you and today I am sharing a fun tutorial for creating a ribbon spider!  You can use these spiders for hair accessories, to decorate a vase, or even on gifts!  I placed my spider in the center of a bow on a hair tie so that we can use it on a vase and in our hair too!

For my project I am using the following:

Here's the tutorial:
1.  Cut four 8" pieces and one 24" piece of the black satin ribbon.
2.  Starting with the 24" piece, place a small piece of double-sided adhesive on one end of the ribbon.
3.  Adhere the ribbon to itself making about a 1-1/2" loop.
4.  Roll the ribbon around that loop then add another piece of double-sided adhesive to the end.
5.  Adhere the end in place.  Your loop should look similar to this now.
6.  Gather your four 8" strips together in one line.  Tie them around the loop.
7.  Pull the knot tight and pull the "legs" on each side out.
8.  Separate out the loop to form the body.
9.  Trim the "legs" at angles.  I did the front two in one direction and the back two in the other direction.
10. Next cut a 22" piece of the Princess Glitter Ribbon.  Get your hair tie and a zip tie for your bow if you are using it.
11.  Flip your bow over and place the hair tie on the back.  Feed the zip tie around and include the hair tie in and latch it together.  Fluff out your bow to have equal loops then pull the zip tie tight.
12.  Trim off the back of the zip tie.
13.  Flip your bow back over - it should look similar to this.  Fluff the bow as needed.
14.  Hot glue your spider in place in the center!

Thanks so much for stopping by today

Cheer Bow by Crystal

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Hello Ribbons Unlimited Inc.  fans!

It's Crystal here back with a tutorial on how I solved a problem and created a Cheer Bow.
A Cheer bow is typically 3" wide, but try to find ribbon that is 3" wide and it either cost a fortune or does not come in to many colors.  Grosgrain is the type of ribbon that is best for these bows as it has great body and holds its shape very well . So I am going to show you how to use 1-1/2" wide grosgrain ribbon to create a Cheer Bow by sewing it together!

So to start pick your colors, my daughter has a new outfit that is cameo so I am using a brown, black, and green ribbon of this bow: Ribbons Unlimited Inc has 4 pages of solid colored grosgrain ribbon in lots of colors, they also carry glittered and print grosgrain so go check it out!

Supplies used for this project are:
a small zip tie
a lighter to melt the edges
scissors
option shabby flower for center
scrap black felt
black hair pony tie

Cheer bow 005

Cut all 3 ribbons to 30" long, next set the black and brown side by side and lay the moss down the center, next we will zigzag over the top to sew the two pieces together and make a 3" wide piece with a contrast color down the center.

Cheer bow 002
Next we form the bow, find the center make the loops even...
Cheer bow 004

Grab the zip tie and wrap around center add the hair tie to back side of the bow and close the zip tie just tight enough to hold the bow in shape  but loose enough to make adjustments to the loops and tails until you get it just how you want it...
Cheer bow 006

Cheer bow 007

Cheer bow 008
With the scissors angle the bow tails and use the lighter to
heat seal the edges this keeps the tails from fraying
Cheer bow 010

Next I try different centers, the first is a shabby center but
then I chose to go a different route
Cheer bow 012
I took the brown and moss and tied a knot to make a center
Cheer bow 011
I chose to use the knot
Cheer bow 013
Next I glue the knot onto the bow on the back side and cover
the glue with a felt square in black to hide the seam
Cheer bow 016
Here is my finished 3" wide Cheer bow!
Cheer bow 018
My model today is my daughter Zoe, the lighting in my scrap room was
not the best so we went outside to take a few more pictures
Cheer bow 020
She is squinting because the sun is too bright for her lol oh the pains of being a model for your mom, but remember the bow is for her ...lol

Thank you Zoe for helping me today and I hope you find this tutorial helpful and you come up with your own creative Cheer Bow ideas.

I hope this project was inspiring and it  gets you to create something special with ribbon from Ribbons Unlimited Inc.  I will be back Wednesday with another great project to share with you
.
