Bow Tutorial with Jamie

Friday, June 6, 2014

Good morning!  Jamie back with you today to share a quick and easy tutorial for creating this stunning bow using Ribbons Unlimited Inc. ribbons!

For today's project I am using

Here's the tutorial:
 1.  Cut your Ombre Ribbon in three strips to 7", 9", and 12".  Cut your satin ribbon to 9".  For the twine you will need a 10" piece.  This is covered up so you will not see it with the finished bow.
 2.  With your 7" ribbon, fold the piece in half (long ways) and trim the end at an angle.
 3.  Your end should look like this now.
 4.  Repeat with the other side.  Your finished piece should be similar to this.  This will be the bow base.  Set aside for now.
 5.  Take your 12" Ombre Ribbon and fold to mark the center.  Place adhesive in the center on the under side.  Bring one side of the ribbon over and adhere, forming a loop at one end. Apply more adhesive to the center and bring the other side of the ribbon over to form the second loop.  Your ribbon should look like this now.
 6.  Grab your twine and tie a knot around the center of your bow.
 7.  Repeat Step #5 for the 9" ribbon.
 8.  Turn your bow over and bring the twine tails up.  Place your smaller bow in the center of the larger and tie a knot to hold it in place.
 9.  Flip your bows over and grab your base piece.  Bring the twine tails out to the side.
10. Tie a knot around the base piece, centering.  Trim your twine tails.
11.  Turn your bow back over and fluff out the loops.
12.  Tie a bow around the center with your satin ribbon.

That's all there is to it!  Now you have a gorgeous bow that can be used on project, gift wrapping, even in your hair!

Happy Birthday Pillow Box

Friday, May 9, 2014

Hi guys!  It's Jamie with you today! We are often looking for little gifts for classmates or to go with cash gifts for parties and clear pillow boxes are so much fun!  I filled the large pillow box with plastic army men, one of our favorites, and used the gorgeous red grosgrain ribbon to tie a pencil to it to complete the package!

Tutorial:
1.  Cut a piece of white cardstock to 3/4" x 12" then adhere the flag border from the We've Got Your Border #57002, Birthday.  Fussy cut the border leaving a small white edge around the flags.
2.  Cut the border in half, leaving one a flag larger than the other so none of the flags are cut in half.
3.  Trim the top edge of the white cardstock so there is just a slight white border across the top.
4.  Fill the large pillow box with army men and close.
5.  Place the large circle cupcake sticker from the We've Got Your Sticker Plus #54002, Birthday to the center of the pillow box front.
6.  Next use the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Sitckers By the Dozen #62001, Birthday below the cupcake sticker.
7.  Adhere the smaller banner across the top of the pillow box as shown.
8.  Adhere the larger banner piece across the top in the opposite direction as displayed in the photo.
9.  Cut a 20" piece of red grosgrain ribbon and tie it around the top of the box, placing the flag banners over the top of the flat ribbon.  Tie a bow with the red ribbon toward the right edge of the box.  Cut a 9" piece of Maraschino twine and tie it around the red ribbon bow.

Gift Wrapping with Ribbon! with Jamie

Friday, February 7, 2014

Good Morning Ribbons Unlimited Fans!  It's Jamie back with you and today I am sharing a fun gift wrapped in gorgeous Apple Green Organdy Ribbon in 2-3/4" width!  If you haven't worked with this ribbon before, you are in for a real surprise! This ribbon is an unwired ribbon, however, it does have a monofilament edge (sort of like fishing line) sewn in to it to give it extra body...which make it perfect for tying bows!

Just have a look...

I love how the sheerness of the ribbon allows you to see the decorative paper underneath and of course we all love a bow that is easy to tie that looks this amazing!

Gift Wrapping with Nylvalour Velvet Ribbon

Wednesday, December 25, 2013

Merry Christmas!  Jamie with you today and like most of you I have been busy shopping and wrapping!

I love to have a variety of boxes and bags ready for the Holidays to hide gifts in so that they aren't obvious as to what is in them…yes, I am one of those that will wrap the smallest present in the largest box (or boxes!) just to keep the kids guessing!  This year I created over-sized Pillow Boxes to help me conceal gifts!

For this large pillow box, I used the 7/8" Kiwi Nylvalour Velvet Ribbon.  This high quality, Swiss velvet ribbon comes in widths from 3/16 to 2" in all colors. Wider widths available in black. It is a true velvet, not a flocked velvet. We also carry stretch velvet ribbon and double face velvet ribbon for special orders. Contact us if you are interested!

Wishing you and yours a safe and happy Holiday!

Gift Bow with Jamie Cripps

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

Good Morning Ribbons Fans!
Jamie back with you today to share a fabulous tutorial for making homemade gift bows I found over on Monica Edward's blog!  The bows are super easy and the results are stunning…just have a look!

The image to the left is after the bow was removed from the template and the image to the right is the finished bow once pulling all the layers apart!

For this bow I am using the Giraffe Print Grosgrain Ribbon in 7/8".  This ribbon is a little stiffer than some of my other grosgrain ribbons so it wrapped around the template well and also holds it shape!

You can find more Animal Print Ribbons through the link below:

A Gift for Teacher by Jamie Cripps

Friday, May 31, 2013

Good Morning!  Jamie back today to share another bargain gift for the teachers!
and hiding inside is this cutie is this adorable personalized post-it note holder!...
I picked up the post-it note holder for just $7.00 from a local Office Max and spent about $0.35 for the vinyl!  We also picked up a three pack of the pop-up post-it notes which were on sale bringing this teacher gift in at under $10.00 in total!  WooHoo!  Anyone else excited!?  :)

How about a quick ribbon tutorial?  Maybe that will do the trick!
Today I am using a Celadon Lyon French Wired Ribbon from Ribbons Unlimited!  I love the feel of the Lyon French Wired ribbons and since they have wire, they stay where you want them!
1.  Gather your box and clear a little space to work.
2.  Trim a large piece of ribbon and place the center of the ribbon across the top of the box.
3.  Pull the ribbon down under the bottom of the box and then cross the ribbon and begin pulling them back up to the top of the box.
4.  Both of your ribbons should be back at the top like this image.
5.  Push one of the strings under the ribbon already on the box.
6.  Then push the second one under in the opposite direction.
7.  Pull the two ribbons back up and then tie together, pulling the ribbon tight.
8.  Tie a bow as you normally would, fluffing out the bow area.
9.  Pull the end to the side behind one of the loops of the bow then tie another bow in the center of the existing bow.  Trim the ends to the desired length.  If you have a lot of excess ribbon, you could always tie a third bow!
